Natalie Portman Dior Ad Banned For Being "Misleading"

Dior has released a new series of ads with Natalie Portman. The ads for Dior’s Diorshow mascara have been banned in the UK, however. Why? The U.K.’s Advertising Standards Agency labeled the ads were “misleadingly exaggerating the effects of the product.” The concern was that women who saw the ad would assume they would end up looking like Natalie herself (or at least her eyelashes as they appear in the ad) if they used Diorshow mascara. After Natalie shot the ads, the retouchers go to work with the following “revisions:”

“separate/increase the length and curve of a number of her lashes and to replace/fill a number of missing or damaged lashes, for a more stylised, uniform and tidy effect.”

Apparently it’s the retouching that the UK Ad Agency finds misleading. You can see the ad in question at Dior’s website. A Dior rep said the retouching was done to show all the mascara could do. At first, this seemed CRAZY to me, but then I thought about it. Isn’t it misleading to have to retouch the ads? What do you think?
